DOVJE - MOJSTRANA

The first church was built in the 11th Century. A small Roman chapel soon became a part of a bigger church that got its present look in 1640.
According to the legend the church was built on the spot where Saint Cyril and Methodius (the apostles of the Slaves) took a rest on their way to Rome. They were carrying St. Clement's bones to the Pope and after that Saint the church got its name.

Our hiking tips
Opposite to the junction where the road forks to the Krma valley, there is a restored house, which with its wall paintings - frescoes (of St. Mary from Višarje, St. Florian and St. Michael) and its appearance tells the visitor about the vivid past of the village.
Šmerc from Bavaria (the previous owner) made the first house out of wood. It used to be a part of a famous tourist inn that was known by its hospitality, great service and good reputation. People (mostly Slovenian, Austrian, Italian and German guests) were also able to hire mountain guides for hikes into the Julian Alps in this inn. One of the most famous guests was Julius Kugy from Italy that wrote several books about our beautiful mountains. In this inn Baumbach wrote a well-known story about the mountain sheep (chamois) with golden horns.

It is located in the same building as the Post office, right in the centre of Mojstrana village. We offer you all the necessary information about this place, hiking / walking in the Julian Alps or Karavanke, events, history and points of interest. Office offers you not only the brochures and maps but also souvenirs, postcards, books and small gifts.

Is a nice park where you can rest, get your strength back and relax while listening to the birds and the water from the stream.

The house is interesting mostly because of the beehive endings that adorn its facade. This used to be a home of our famous bee keeper and a founder of the bee-fruit association, Michael Ambrožič.

The Triglav museum collection is located in the former Jozel's Inn. It features material on the history of mountaineering in Slovenija: the first attempts to reach the top of Mt. Triglav, the founding and activities of the Slovenian Mountaineering Club and its branches, construction of mountain huts, the Tourist Club Skala, the Mountain Rescue Service, the famous Triglav priest Jakob Aljaž. A part of the collection is dedicated to the presentation of Triglav National Park.

Is the most impressive from three valleys and surprises one with its tremendous Triglav North Face, which shuts off the head of the valley like an enormous natural curtain. The Vrata valley is approximately 10 km long and offers a lot of beauties along its way. One can go trough the woods or right next to the river and enjoy / explore the "Galerije" or the Educational Natural Path.

As the glacier withdraw from the Vrata valley it deepened its bottom and a conglomerate wall was formed. The water of Peričnik drops down the wall in two grades; the lower waterfall is 52 m and the upper one is 16 m high.
How to get there? 4 km out of Mojstrana, in the Vrata valley, there is a small hut with a parking place from where there's a splendid view over the lower Peričnik. Five minutes walk from there and you're standing right next to it. The attraction of the bigger waterfall is, that one can go behind it. During the Christmas season, the frozen waterfalls are illuminated in the evenings.

Triglav is Slovenian highest peak and also the highest summit in the Julian Alps. It represents our national symbol (that is why its printed in our flag). The top was first conquered on the 26th August, 1778. According to the ancient Slavic legend, Mt. Triglav (2864m) is a three headed God who is watching over the earth, the sky, and the underworld.
With its height (1,200m) and width (3km) Triglav's North Face is classified as one of the most dazzling in the Eastern Alps. Many great events of Slovenian mountain climbing history were recorded here. Horizontally, the wall shows typical stratification and vertically, pronounced pillars: Slovene, German, Central, Jug's etc. The wall also has natural windows and funnels. To the foot of the Triglav's North Face there is a marked path, starting at the Aljaž hut.

This memorial, erected in 1989, stands in the village of Dovje - along the Jesenice-Kranjska Gora main road. It is dedicated to our famous Triglav priest Jakob Aljaž. He was a great patriot - he bought Triglav and thanks to his endeavours, a tower was erected to the top of the peak on 7th August, 1896, so the mountain stayed in the hands of Slovenians.
He was also a successful composer, singer and cloir master. In the presbytery of St. Michael's church and in the local museum in Mojstrana there are separate rooms dedicated to his memory.

The valley, overshadowed by the pinnacled north face of Rjavina, is remarkable for its solitude and quietness. It represents the shortest way to the top of Triglav, mostly covered with trees.

On the ceiling beam there is a year 1775 written, but the oldest original farmhouse document that was found on the premices is dated with the year of 1609. The inner equipment is fully authentical. One can go insisde and have a look how and where people used to live over here - it is very interesting, you'll see.
On the facade there are 2 wall paintings: of St. Mary of Višarje and Crusified Jesus with both Marys.

It stands in front of Gogala's house in Zgornja Radovna. More than 500 years old tree is around 25 m tall and its trunk has 2 m in diameter. Beautiful lime tree blossoms every year and looks great despite its age.

The saw and a mill (that worked only occasionally - when the water was high) are located 300 m away from the source of Radovna river, under Gogala's house. We don't know when exactly they were built, but what we do know is that both of them operated till the 70's.

It represents the easiest but also the longest way to Triglav mountain. In summer season you can come to the top also with a bike, and in winter season the area is suitable for ski-touring.
On Zasipska planina there is a hut (Kovinarska koča) from where the top of Triglav is reached in 6 to 7 hours.
From Krma you can reach Debela peč in nearly 3 houres!
