The relief of the Julian Alps and Triglav is very dissected, there are steep and deeply cut valleys, their slopes having been smoothed down by glaciers and the bottoms are flat and enlarged or covered with the sediments originating from glacial and postglacial periods. In fact most of the Park area is exceptionally rich in various karst phenomena, including a special type of the mountain karstVisit the mountains around like a : peak of Triglav, the most picturesque peaks and mountain groupings within the Park are Jalovec (2645m) and Mangart (2679) in the north-western part; Prisojnik (2547m), Razor (2601m), Skrlatica (2738m) and the Martuljek Group with Spik (2472m) on the northern side; Kanjavec (2568m) and Lepo Spicje (2398m) in the central part, and the long Bohinj mountain-ridge together with Krn (2244m) on the southern edge.

Triglav National Park is the only national park in Slovenia. The higest point in the park is the summit of Mt Triglav 2864m, from which the              park earned its name. The park covers the major part of the Julian Alps in Slovenia. The natural features of Triglav   National Park are reason enough for people to visit.A major draw is its mountainous terrain, featuring the higest and moste immense peaks in Slovenia, the deep, gaping glacial valleys, lakes, rivers and ravines, the mountain pastures and woods, a rich cultural heritage and picturesque villages with their well-tended surrounding countryside.
The park is named after Mt.Triglav (2864m), symbol of the Slovenia, which is situated almost in the middle of the protected territory. From it the valleys spread out radial, supplying water to two large river Systems which have theirsources in the Julian Alps: the Soca river and the Sava river flowing to the Adriatic and Black Sea respectively.

In the tourist centres of the Triglav National Park and their immediate surroundings we are increasingly aware of the advantages and importance a national park has in developing natural and desirable tourist and recreational activities.Hiiking is no doubt one of the most appropriate ways a visitor can really experience the unspoiled surroundings of a national park. And it is only fair to remaind visitors that in the park they are entering a very sensetive natural ecosystem where special care must be taken.

THE CRYSTAL PURITY OF MOUNTAIN WATERS IN SLOVENIA

The Julian Alps are the first mountain barrier separating the Mediterranean Sea from continental Central Europe. As a result, there is no lack of rain and snow in this region and water can be found in all its forms.Visible from the road near Bovec, the Boka waterfall gushes directly from a high cliff, spilling up to 100 cubic meters of water per second that falls for 106 meters. There are another 260 larger and smaller waterfalls of various shapes and sizes in the Slovene Alps. Our highest is the 130 meter Cedca waterfall in the mountains above Jezersko. All of this water carves its way into unimaginably narrow, dark and deep limestone canyons such as Tolminska Korita near Tolmin,Mlinarica beside the road over the Vršic mountain pass,Vintgar near Bled(see my travalogue "Vintgar gorge"),Mostnice near Lake Bohinj, and the Kamniška Bistrica valley.
